We were privileged to be part of the 2017 British Accountancy Awards which took place on Friday 13 October 2017 at The London Hilton on the prestigious Park Lane.
The annual awards celebrate excellence in accounting and finance management and are regarded as the industry’s most prestigious accolades. They pinpoint professional development and highlight those that have demonstrated excellence in their profession.
We were delighted to welcome Robin Brown from SP Training, Sid Sims from Explosive Productions, David Scott from Sage and Paul McGill from JT Atkinson as our guests for the evening who joined our team of David Allen, Alison Welton, Sue Winter, Amy Johnston, Steve Balmer and I.
The evening kicked off with a drinks reception inside the beautiful venue where we had the opportunity to mingle with other nominees and sponsors of the awards before being invited to take our seats at our table for the formalities to begin. Hugh Dennis a highly regarded comedian, writer, actor and impressionist, best known for his work for the comedy series ‘Mock the Week’, was the guest speaker for the event. After welcoming and entertaining us with his wit and charm we then enjoyed a delicious meal before the awards ceremony began.
The sense of pride we felt to have been shortlisted as one of the six finalists for the ‘Independent Firm of the Year – Scotland, Northern Ireland and North England’ was overwhelming. This category recognises those firms that have added significant value to their clients, across all service areas. At David Allen we are constantly striving to offer our clients the best service possible and aim to be more than just your standard accountant, with a proactive approach in all we do, adding real value to businesses and individuals we work with.
Although we did not win the award, to have our team recognised and shortlisted to the final six firms from across Scotland, Cleveland, County Durham, Northumberland, Teeside, Tyne and Wear, Yorkshire and Humberside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and Cumbria was humbling to say the very least. The lucky winner of the award was ‘Infinity Partnership’ based in Aberdeen. We would like to pass on our congratulations to them and wish them continued success.
Other award categories included ‘International Firm of the Year’ which was awarded to Grant Thornton and ‘Practice Software Product of the Year’ which Xero secured, to name but a few from the 27 awards presented throughout the evening. Congratulations to all the individuals, firms and businesses that were shortlisted and well done to those that secured the award in their category.
The evening was buzzing with excitement throughout. Following the ceremony guests were invited to join an after party before carriages arrived, shortly after midnight.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the panel of judges, all of the sponsors who made the event possible and the staff at The London Hilton for their service, all of which contributed to making the evening a great success which our team along with our guests thoroughly enjoyed.
