George Osborne delivered his 2016 Budget on Wednesday 16 March…
At 12.33pm on Wendesday 16 March the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, delivered his annual Budget to Parliament and the nation.
Osborne’s speech lasted 1 hour and 3 minutes and focussed strongly on the next generation and planning for the future. His Budget was ‘from a Government for the working people delivering a Budget for the working people’ with further plans for the Northern Powerhouse announced including upgrades to the A66 and A69 in Cumbria. Carlisle and Cumbria will also benefit from a share of £700 million set aside for flood defences – a welcome announcement following the devastation our county faced in December 2015.
