It’s been feeling a lot like Christmas in the David Allen offices this month. We’ve all had a great time getting into the swing of the festive season raising money for charity along the way.
We all donned our Christmas jumpers on 12 December for Save The Children’s Christmas Jumper and on the 19 December we held the first ever David Allen Great Christmas Bake Off! Plenty of members of the David Allen team dusted off their aprons and wielded their rolling pins to make Christmas goodies in aid of Eden Valley Hospice.

Recent years have seen HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) offer specific groups of people or business sectors the opportunity to put their tax affairs in order under the best terms available.

On Saturday 29 November I attended the Carlisle United Business Club meeting.
The motivational speaker on the day was David Hyner who gave an interesting talk on ‘The MASSIVE Goals Principle’. The talk was very informative and challenged the way that we interact with each other in and out of a business scenario. David explained that everybody makes assumptions about others, and by doing this, it could affect the way that we effectively did business.

On Thursday 20 November Alison Welton and I were kindly invited by Bron-ja of Wigton to an event thanking customers for their continued custom and support.
The event was held at Bron-ja’s shop in Wigton and guests were given the chance to take advantage of a special promotion on their beautiful range of trousers along with the opportunity to browse the new Christmas clothing range while enjoying lovely nibbles and drinks. Bron-ja always like to support charities so this event was used to help raise money for the Little Princess Trust, a charity close to the heart of their staff. The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss.

When you provide credit to your customers it is important you have a plan of action in place for the eventuality of them showing initial indications of financial distress. An early indicator of financial distress can be when a customer’s payment pattern changes for the worse with delayed payments or bounced cheques being received and it is at this point you need to establish whether the customer can pay and will pay.
In such circumstances we recommend contacting your customer as soon as possible to obtain up to date trading information, such as their bank overdraft limit, current cash flow position and what their immediate and longer term business plans are. You can then take this information into consideration and make an informed decision on how to proceed.
