On Friday 1 November 2013 members of the David Allen team attended the Borderway Agri Expo 2013 at Harrison & Hetherington, Rosehill Carlisle.
As this was my first time at the expo, my first impressions were just the general scale of the event with a huge turnout of people and such a wide variety of trade stands, exhibitions and competitions.
It was a great chance to meet both existing and potential new clients and contacts, and have a chat in a very informal environment. One client of mine travelled over from Waberthwaite with his family for the event and commented on how friendly everyone on our stand had been.
I got a chance to break away from the stand when my mother in law arrived with my two boys, and it was nice to wander around the site with them. They loved seeing the wide variety of livestock on show and enjoyed watching the competitions.
David Allen were once again proud to be sponsors of the Agri-Expo Stockman of the year, this year's junior winner was Tom Blamire of Whinnow Farm and the 2013 senior winner was Richard Ridley of Woodhall – congratulations to you both.
Our annual expo competition this year featured matching different breeds of animal to their country of origin, I can now reveal the answers are as follows:
- France – Limousin
- Ireland – Dexter
- Australia – Murray Grey
- Switzerland – Simmental
- Netherlands – Zwartbles
- Netherlands – Texel
- Wales – Kerry Hill
- New Zealand – Kunejune
We had a couple of correct entries to our competition this year, congratulations to Jim Barber from Cheshire who's name was drawn out of a hat of successful entries and is the lucky winner of the David Allen prize hamper.
The event was well organised and a great opportunity for everyone to catch up with clients, contacts and friends outside of our the offices. I look forward to next years event.
