On Monday 2 October Emma Pigg and I had the pleasure of attending Mitchell’s auction mart in Cockermouth on behalf of David Allen, where we sponsored the annual prize show and sale of Swaledale breeding sheep.
The pre-sale show seen 17 pens of ten sheep competing for the Willy Gill trophy, which was judged by Geoff Smith, Workington. Some outstanding pens of sheep were shown and the overall championship was awarded to Messrs Cockbain & Son, Keswick. The judge clearly saw the potential of the champion pen and snapped up these fine animals at the sale later in the day for £195.00 per head.
The reserve champions from Messrs Folder, Keswick sold at £175.00 per head to Andrew Nicholson of Cockermouth.
It was fantastic to see the auction deliver another great trade, which we were proud to sponsor.
We are delighted to support our local marts, recognising their importance in the county, supporting British agriculture. Emma and I enjoyed catching up with clients and talking to potential new clients about the range of services offered by our dedicated farming team at David Allen, which add real value to those we work with.
