Saturday 10 December saw our annual match day sponsorship at Aspatria Rugby Club. Each year we invite a number of clients, professional contacts, colleagues and friends to join us for an afternoon of hospitality as a thank you for their support throughout 2016.
Throughout the morning rain had been threatening but by kick-off at 2.15pm, though cold, it stayed fair and we were all treated to a great game
of rugby. This year the Black and Reds were up against Upper Eden RUFC. Although Upper Eden put up a great fight, the Black and Reds lead the way at half time, holding that lead through the second half winning with a full time score of 64-12.
Prior to the match kick-off we held our annual pre-match competition in which our guests were given the opportunity to guess what time they thought the first try would happen, what the half time score would be, and what they predicted the full time score would be. Our lucky competition winners coming closest with their guesses were Ken Brown, Graham Allen and Alan Dinning who were presented with their prizes by members of the David Allen team.
At half time we were all a little surprised to see Gillian Potts take to the stage with a microphone. She stunned David Allen, welcoming him onto the stage where she presented him with a birthday cake to celebrate his 50th birthday. For David who had wanted his birthday to pass under the radar this was somewhat of a shock, but all the same he was delighted with the surprise. Thank you to Gillian Potts and Kerry Sessford for their joint contribution in making the birthday cake which was truly amazing!
During the day we took the opportunity to raise money for our Charity of the Year, Great North Air Ambulance Service with various fundraising activities. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of all our guests and this generosity, combined with the success of our raffle, saw us raise a fantastic £1,800 – a huge thank you to everyone who contributed towards this great result. Congratulations again to Jess Johnson who won £500 cash as part of our Lucky Squares competition as well as all of the raffle prize winners on the day.
I would like to thank everyone who joined us on Saturday and extend our thanks once again for all of their support in 2016. The rugby club were once again excellent hosts and we would like to thank everyone at Aspatria Rugby Club for making the day such an enjoyable one.
Special thanks to: MI Richardson & Sons (Cardewlees), Cranstons of Orton Grange, Tesco Rosehill, Carlisle and McClusky Roofing for their raffle donations.
