Saturday 12 December saw our annual match day sponsorship at Aspatria Rugby Club.
Each year we invite a number of clients, contacts and friends to join us for an afternoon of hospitality as a thank you for their support throughout 2015.
Following the terrible weather Cumbria had seen over the past week, the skies were far from bright on Saturday morning and by lunchtime snow had begun to fall. Luckily by kick-off at 2pm the snow had warmed to rain and the match between Aspatria’s Black and Reds and Barrow’s Hawcoat Park went ahead – and a great game it was too! Although Hawcoat Park put up a great fight, the Black and Reds lead the way at half time holding that lead through the bitter cold of the second half winning with a full time score of 28-10.
Prior to the match kick-off we held our annual pre-match competition in which our guests were given the opportunity to guess what time they thought the first try would happen, what the half time score would be, and what they predicted the full time score would be. Our lucky competition winners were Simon Ovens, Khal Moualem and Rachel Batty. Alison Welton, one of our Partners, was delighted to present them each with a prize for their efforts.
Following the devastating floods across Cumbria that we had witnessed the week before, we decided that we would take the opportunity to help raise some much needed money for the cause with fundraising activities throughout the day. This would see all of the funds raised being split 50/50 between the Cumbria Flood Appeal and our ongoing Charity of the Year initiative which is raising money for Eden Valley Hospice and Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
We were overwhelmed by the generosity of all our guests and this generosity, combined with the success of our raffle, saw us raise a fantastic £1,200 – a huge thank you to everyone who contributed towards this great result. Congratulations again to Hughie McKerrell who won first prize in our raffle which consisted of a luxury hamper full of goodies kindly donated by businesses around Dalston.
I would like to thank everyone who joined us for the day and extend my thanks once again for all of their support in 2015. The rugby club were once again excellent hosts and we would like to thank everyone at Aspatria Rugby Club for making the day such an enjoyable one.
Special thanks to: MI Richardson & Sons (Cardewlees), Carrock Meats (Dalston), Orton Grange Café and Gifts, Cranstons the Butchers, Co-operative Food Dalston and Dobbies Garden Centre Carlisle for their raffle donations.
