This morning, Friday 25 October 2013, I was up bright and early to attend a “State of the Economy” breakfast event at Carlisle Racecourse hosted by Barclays.
Coffee and bacon butties were served while I networked with local business people and fellow professionals. During this time I had conversations with among others, John Stevenson, a local Carlisle MP and Neil Austin the finance director at Carr’s Milling Industries, John was particularly interested in my view on whether the local economy was improving.
After breakfast, John Young from the Bank of England gave a witty presentation on the current state of the economy and his views on what we are likely to see moving forward. Following this John Stevenson MP gave his views on how Carlisle can become a bigger player economically and how we should seek to grow Carlisle into a bigger city.
A question and answer session followed (in which I felt like I was on Question Time) causing an interesting debate.
