Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC) was originally formed in 2004 to bring together businesses in the West Cumbrian area, enabling them to pool their collective knowledge and share information to ensure business opportunities remain in our local area. On 2 April 2014 the BECBC celebrated its 10 year anniversary at a commemorative evening following its Annual General Meeting held earlier that day.
I joined other members at Hunday Manor Hotel, Workington for the event. The AGM took place initially and three positions were available on the board for election. It was great to see our client Ivan Baldwin from Nuvia successfully elected to the board along with Liz Bowe from PacTec EPS Ltd and Emma-Jayne Gooch from NuExec Consulting.
With the formalities out of the way, we enjoyed a reception where we were able to sample “Standing Stones Vodka” and “Bedrock Gin” made locally with Lake District spring water followed by the Cumbrian themed supper courtesy of Hunday Manor. The entertainment was also Cumbrian based starting with Colin Armstrong who recited his poems in his own unique dialect, followed by compere and comedian Howard Nicholson who again performed in his own distinctive way. The evening ended with us all joining in a good old sing along of “Did ye ken John Peel”.
Both the AGM and the anniversary celebrations provided an opportunity for both old and new members of Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster to get together, and we all look forward to working together for the next ten years.
