Each year the Border British Blue Club hold their Annual General Meeting but also take the opportunity to invite members and guests to highlight and celebrate the work they have done during the year.
I was pleased to be able to attend this year’s event at The Auctioneer, Carlisle on Thursday 25 January. With welcome drinks in hand we had time to talk with other guests before being shown to our table.
The formalities of the AGM got underway with Ross Pattinson, Chairman opening the meeting and welcoming all attendees. Ross talked passionately about the year gone by, the tremendous cattle out at all shows and the progressive demand seen at sales. Sharing with us many highlights from the year he ended saying the year had been positive for the club and the breed, with Blue cross cattle taking many top prizes in commercial rings and fat stock shows. The future for the breed looks good and long may this continue.
As part of the evening the election of office bearers were confirmed with all of the current bearers being re-elected.
Chairman – Ross Pattinson
Vice Chairman – Blair Comrie
President – Steve Pattinson
Secretary – Claire Pattinson
Treasurer – Sandra Gowling
With the formalities of the AGM taken care of speedily, guests then enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner courtesy of The Auctioneer before Ross invited the guest speaker for the evening, ‘Boomer Birch’ to the stage where he delivered an informative and entertaining presentation.
After several years working for Cogent as the company’s Beef Sire Analyst, Boomer is a familiar face to many, being a regular at shows and sales across the UK. Following growing beef sales he was promoted to the helm of the Signature Beef team as Beef Programme Manager for Cogent Breeding in February 2017. Boomer spoke enthusiastically about his role in selecting elite bulls that will sire the next generation of beef stars, ensuring farmers’ herds are productive and profitable. It was great to hear his expertise and experiences.
We are proud to continue to support our clients and I was delighted to attend this event on behalf of David Allen Agriculture. The Auctioneer was a fantastic venue for the event and the atmosphere and delicious food was exactly what was needed to lift a gloomy January.
