|Hannah with the David Allen stand|
Yesterday afternoon, 21 January 2013, myself, Vicky and Hannah attended a Careers Fair at Caldew School. This event was arranged by the school as part of a full day of work ready events for year 11 pupils, to enable them to gain a valuable insight into the different careers available to them, as well as providing them an interactive experience of interviews.
There were around 25 employers at the Careers Fair with stands including Nestle, the Armed Forces, Cumberland Building Society and a number of universities and colleges. The pupils came into the sports hall in groups and were given time to browse the stands and ask questions to the employers. Hannah and Vicky were able to spend time with each pupil explaining to them what accountancy is and the different available routes to pursue a career in this profession. They provided factual hand-outs and David Allen goodies to all interested pupils and gave them a real insight to our firm. Later in the afternoon the sports hall was opened further up to year 12 & 13 pupils, parents, teachers and school governors and Hannah and Vicky showcased our firm and its values fantastically.
Whilst Hannah and Vicky were busy engaging with pupils in the sports hall I was involved in a one to one session based in the Lecture Theatre where I completed mock interviews with six different pupils from Year 11 to provide them with a practical experience of an actual interview scenario. The pupils came equipped with a completed application form and from this I tailored my questions around their chosen career choice and questioned them on their strengths, weaknesses and career aspirations and following this gave them constructive feedback on the answers they had provided to help them for future experiences of this kind.
The event was well received by all the pupils we met and they were all extremely thankful for our time and advice. Hopefully, we have equipped them with the knowledge and skills to aid their impending career choices. We would like to wish them all the very best in whatever career path they choose and thank Caldew School for allowing us to be part of the days events.
