We were delighted to be invited back to take part in Caldew School’s Work Ready Day on 8 March 2016.
I visited the school to play the role of interviewer in some short mock interviews for the year 11 students as part of their Work Ready Programme. The aim of the interviews were to enable students to gain an insight into what an typical interview is like and also what local employers look for in an employee.
After getting seated in the gymnasium, the students arrived one by one for their interviews. Earlier in the day the students had filled out application forms for their chosen career, detailing their predicted grades, achievements, work experience, hobbies and interests and reasons they were applying for the job.
The students handed us their applications forms as they arrived for their interviews, and although some students were a little nervous, the interviews were all excellent. The students I interviewed were confident and all knew exactly what career they wanted to do and how they were going to achieve this. We were then required to give each student some feedback on how they had preformed.
It was obvious that a lot of time and thought had gone into the students’ preparation for the interviews and also into the completion of the application forms. The chosen careers ranged from architects, to vets, to radiographers. Even though the students I interviewed weren’t interested in a career in accountancy, they all had questions for me at the end of the interview.
It was great to be invited once again to such a worthwhile event, the students who were interviewed were a testament to their school. I would like to wish all the year 11 students luck with their upcoming exams and with their careers and look forward to working with Caldew School again soon.
