On Saturday 23 February, David and Alison Allen treated 10 members of staff: Lucy Metcalf, Rachel Park, Julie Osborn, Jamie Pape, Hannah Jackson, Sheryl Dobson, Carole Donalson, Gloria Drake, and myself to a table at Foxys restaurant for the Carlisle United versus MK Dons game as a thank you for their hard work over the past year.
As we settled into our seats we were lucky enough to meet Carlisle player Matt Robson who unfortunately was also a spectator for the match due to injury. We enjoyed a delicious three course meal including a beautiful pork and pistachios terrine or french onion soup, chicken with palma ham and a choice between a chocolate and orange cheesecake or treacle tart with our pre-match drinks. We placed our predictions (some admittedly complete guesses) for the first goal scorer and time time of the first goal, half time score, full time score and total attendance to the game.
Narrowly missing kick-off, we watched the first half of the match (with many cries as Danny Livesey collided with a member of the MK Dons team meaning he wore a bandage on his head for the remainder of the match!) With MK Dons scoring shortly before half time, many of our group returned to the table unable to watch Carlisle playing a goal down.
The second half was overshadowed by the cheers of excitement as Mark Beck equalised for Carlisle leaving the full time score 1-1 (as I had predicted!)
Amazingly both Lucy and Jackie managed to win prizes of a Carlisle United t-shirt and scarf for their pre-match predictions and we continued to enjoy our afternoon being very well looked after by the staff at Foxys even meeting the fantastic Peter Murphy.
Although Carlisle only managed to draw we all certainly had a winning day and would like to thank David and Alison for this wonderful treat!
