Charity Quiz Night

On Friday 30 October we were delighted to hold a Quiz Night in aid of our Charity of the Year initiative.  This initiative raises funds for two local charities, Eden Valley Hospice and Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.

The Quiz Night was held at Dalston Recreational Hall and saw nearly a hundred quizzers – complete with thinking caps – ready to test their knowledge while raising money for a good cause.  Everyone had their eyes on the prize of £100 and with everyone seated and our quizmaster David Allen ready to go – we were off!

There were quiz rounds to suit all ages and all tastes with questions varying from guessing the name of the Disney character, to asking what cephalalgia is (the scientific name for a headache in case you were wondering) and a music round which featured the musical delights of Westlife, Oasis, David Bowie and even Vera Lynn!

Competition was tight and with only one round to go there were four teams tied for the first place spot.  Following a tough final round the top prize went to the winning team made up of our friends from Dalston Aggregates who very kindly donated their £100 prize money back to the charities!

The award for the best team name, and a bottle of wine to share, was given to team ‘Poshice’ which was an anagram of the word hospice which we all agreed was beautifully creative and a testament to the wonderful causes we were all raising money for.  Throughout the event we had a number of fundraising games such as Stand Up Bingo and Lucky Squares.  Sandra Simpson was our Lucky Squares winner and very generously donated her £50 winnings back to the charities.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the quiz and we hope they all had as enjoyable evening as we did.  A special thank you to David for being such an entertaining quizmaster, to Alison Allen who penned all of the questions for the event, and to all who donated prizes for our raffle.
