CN Group Business Awards 2015

Posted: October 22nd, 2015

Wednesday 21 October saw the 2015 CN Group Business Awards, one of the most highly regarded evenings in Cumbria’s business calendar.  The awards showcased and honoured some of Cumbria’s finest business talent, rewarding them for the great work they do across our county.

I had the pleasure of attending the ceremony along with other members of our team including David Allen, Alison Welton, Michael Peile, Jane Clingan and Gary Martin.  The event took place at Carlisle Racecourse and was sponsored by some of Cumbria’s most influential businesses.  Awards were presented for a variety of categories such as Training and Development, Community Involvement and Innovation to name but a few.

The evening began with a drinks reception and gave us the chance to catch up with all of the other attendees.  We were then treated to a delicious three course dinner (which was beautifully finished with a very innovative dessert… in a can!).

After dinner Jonathan Lee, Managing Director of In-Cumbria and the North West Evening Mail, gave a short introduction and welcomed Ellis Watson, CEO of DC Thomson Publishing, who was the guest speaker for the evening.  Ellis proceeded to deliver a fabulously entertaining speech which focused on growth and how it is key to the success of all businesses.  Ellis believes that in order to achieve business growth individuals need to have more self-belief, assertiveness and confidence and that those who are brave, spontaneous and willing to take a risk will achieve!

Following the after dinner speeches Julie Clayton of BBC Radio Cumbria took to the stage to begin the awards presentation part of the evening.  Julie did a fantastic job and wonderfully expressed the excitement and anticipation that could be felt across the room.

We were once again delighted to sponsor the Rising Star award which had three fantastic nominees – Sam Morris for his amazing work at Askins & Little Stonemason Specialists Limited, Rachel Parker for the development of her West Cumbrian family business Parkers Riding School and Stephanie Tootill for her remarkable work as Export Account Manager at Playdale Playgrounds Ltd.

I was delighted to be welcomed to the stage to present the prestigious Rising Star award to Stephanie Tootill in recognition of her ground-breaking achievements and export management across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia with Playdale Playgrounds Ltd.  All of us at David Allen would once again like to congratulate her on such a wonderful achievement and wish her continued success.

We would like to express our thanks to CN Group and Carlisle Racecourse for a superb evening.  It was fantastic to not only support the awards but also to be a part of another amazing event which showcased the talent and the fantastic array of businesses in Cumbria.
