With the 2014 Commonwealth Games officially opening last night (Wednesday 23 July) we are proudly supporting Lauren Smith a local badminton superstar who will be taking part in the ladies doubles as well as the team event in Glasgow, along with her partner Gabby Adcock (White).
Earlier this year Lauren and Gabby became the national doubles champions for the second year running. The games will be the biggest highlight of Lauren’s career to date, after she started to play badminton from the age of 7. Her talent was recognised from a young age and she first represented England at the age of 14. The Commonwealth Games have always been one of Lauren’s sporting ambitions and now all her hard work has paid off.
I am travelling up to Glasgow with my partner Andrew (Lauren’s dad) to cheer her on and experience the games first-hand. We have four pairs of tickets to watch the badminton the athletics on Sunday, which includes the 5000 metres with Mo Farah! Alongside our tickets for the events we have passes for the athlete’s village which will be great to visit (I have my camera ready for athlete spotting!).
Lauren has was worked so hard for this opportunity and was particularly looking forward to the opening ceremony and the chance to join the rest of the England team in the parade. She is keeping a blog of her experience at the games, click here and here to see her latest blog posts.
Good luck Lauren – you have all at David Allen supporting you and cheering you on!
