Yesterday, Wednesday 8 May 2013, I attended the Esh Group Cumbria Golf Day at Penrith Golf Club.
Esh Group are one of the leading construction companies in the North of England. Along with the construction side of their business, their commitment to our local area includes Esh Added Value and their employability skills programme, Esh Employability, which works with over 750 students in Cumbria through partnerships with Lakes College and Whitehaven School.
Although the weather wasn’t quite the sunshine we saw on Tuesday, we met at 11am for bacon sandwiches and tea. We were then split into our teams for the day with Stableford scoring applying.

My team consisted of Brian Manning, Chief Executive of Esh Group, Andy Ross, Managing Director of North Homes Limited and Dick Cuckson of Cumbria County Council.
Due to the rain our start time was put back by half an hour and we were the first group away at 12.30. The rain eventually eased off and I was able to get rid of my waterproofs after the second hole, although my umbrella was needed on a few occasions. However by the time we reached the twelfth tee we were bathed in warm sunshine and presented with a fantastic view over the Northern Lakes.
Unfortunately our scoring meant that we didn’t win any of the prizes on offer, but we did post a respectable team score.
On arrival back to the club house we were served a lovely carvery meal in the dining room, followed by the presentation.
I had a fantastic day and would like to thank the Esh Group, Penrith Golf Club for their hospitality and my team members for their patience.
