Yesterday (Thursday 3 July) I attended EXPO Cumbria at Carlisle Racecourse. The Expo was a free business to business networking event and there were plenty of exhibitors including local businesses, and those having travelled from further afield. All the exhibitors had their bright and colourful marketing material on display and were busy speaking to everyone that walked past.
My main purpose of attending the EXPO was to listen to the seminars held in the morning. The first seminar I attended “modern sales for our connected world” was presented by Dave Martin of Highest Branch (pictured). He explained that to sell you need to fulfil a customer’s needs, wants and desires. By doing this you are gaining their trust, they get to know and like you before you try to sell to them. Dave also said as quoted by Maya Angelou “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. To succeed you need to be fast and be first, so if there isn’t a current market for a particular service or item, create one. You will be the one who succeeds.
The second seminar I attended was “stand out with social media” presented by Sam Flynn of Sam Flynn Social Media. Sam regularly speaks at business events throughout the UK and delivers in-house training on social media. Her talk was jam-packed with information and practical tips on how to use social media to the best of its ability. It was interesting to find out that around 80% of businesses who use social media actually use it incorrectly and so she gave advice on how to use it properly so you achieve results.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day and found the seminars and information given so helpful for developing our business.
