|Cath and Janette hiding from the rain|
Saturday 7 September 2013 was finals day at Keswick Golf Club and I was competing in the ‘Ladies Handicap Knockout’ trophy against Janette Watson.
All week I was excited and looking forward to playing my first ever final. The course and greens were in excellent condition but unfortunately the weather was very poor. With the rain pouring down we were on the first tee wearing full waterproofs and hats and of course the umbrellas were up!
I was fortunate to have my own caddy, Louise Corlett, who did an excellent job in pushing my trolley and cleaning my clubs after every important shot. After halving the 1st hole I managed to win the next few and stayed in the lead, but eventually Janette came back and we were all square at the 17th tee. Fortunately I held my concentration and won the hole.

We both played the same number of shots on the last hole and I heard the referee announce that I was the winner.
There is no doubt that golf requires a lot of strategy and course management and whilst I could feel the pressures of the spectators, somehow I found myself enjoying a most memorable round of golf.
Finally, everyone met in the clubhouse for the presentations, bar meals and a few drinks.
My thanks go to my playing partner, Janette, my caddy Louise and to all the organisers who made the finals day possible.
