On Saturday 22 March myself, David Allen, Jane Clingan and Lucy Metcalf attended the High Sheriffs’ Grand Charity Dinner. Held at the Shap Wells Hotel, the event was to celebrate Diana Matthews’ year as High Sheriff of Cumbria and launch Martyn Hart into his year of office.
An evening of entertainment and fundraising in aid the High Sheriff’s Crimebeat Fund, administered by Cumbria Community Foundation, started with an opportunity to mingle with other guests followed by a delicious 3 course dinner.
After the dinner, guest speaker historian Dr David Starkey provided a fascinating insight into the reign of Henry VIII and the role of women in positions of power.
The event was extremely well attended and we were glad to be part of such a fantastic evening’s celebrations. We would like to congratulate Diana for a successful year and wish Martyn luck in his upcoming year of office.
