How do you protect your computer from viruses?

Posted: June 22nd, 2015

To protect yourself from any form of cyber-attack it is essential to have an antivirus/antimalware package installed on your computer.

Malware and computer viruses are essentially the same thing, the term ‘malware’ is short for malicious software which causes harm to your computer and includes problems such as:

  • adware
  • spyware
  • computer viruses

Malware is one of the common reasons that may cause your computer to run slowly.  The best thing you can do to stop these from infecting your computer’s system is to invest in a reputable antivirus or antimalware brand such as MacAfee or Norton.  You should also check that your antivirus protection software is updating each day as hundreds of new viruses are released daily.

Another way to protect your computer is to get in to the habit of performing a weekly antivirus scan of your hard drive to ensure that no nasty viruses have entered your computer without you knowing.  An easy way to do this is to open your antivirus software and click the scan button which will scan your computer for threats there and then.  You can also programme your software to automatically preform scans on a weekly basis so you know your computer will be checked regularly without having to remember to do it yourself.
