On Wednesday 24 February we were delighted to be asked to take part in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) BASE 2016 event taking place at Carlisle College. BASE is the ICAEW’s national business, accounting and skills education competition. Students from 10 local schools came along to the event and were given business related tasks to complete (with the help of a mentor from a local accountancy practice). The teams are marked for their work and the winning team will then go on to compete in the northern area heat.
Melanie Thompson, one of our Corporate Specialists and I were delighted to be invited to be mentors for the day and help the teams with their tasks.
The competition is aimed to recreate the environment of the real business world, teaching the participants invaluable business skills that they are unlikely to learn in the classroom.
Our teams from Lime House School and Ulverston Victoria High School both did a fantastic job but for the second year in a row it was Carlisle College that took the first place prize of our heat.
It was a great to be a part of such a fantastic day and hopefully a number of the participants will have enjoyed the experience enough to progress into a career in accountancy.
