Meet Kelly Hillier, our extremely dedicated and passionate mortgage adviser, who has made it her own mission to help clients to find the best mortgage. And there is nothing about mortgages that Kelly doesn’t know! Find out more about Kelly’s journey:
Mortgages is all I’ve ever known. From beginning my career in a Building Society to then joining David Allen Financial Services six years ago, I have learnt that no two mortgage cases are the same; every single day is different for me and my clients, and I love it!
As a broker, I’ve seen it all; a recession, major flooding all over Cumbria, a global pandemic – you name it, everyone’s individual circumstances are different and that’s what makes my job so interesting. No matter the challenge, I want to help you achieve your goals and lead you down your biggest financial path. Ultimately, the flexibility, reassurance and security blanket offered by a broker is something that everyone should experience when arranging their mortgage.
I began my career as a cashier when I was 16, after joining a Building Society’s trainee programme. It was on this journey that I sparked a particular interest in the mortgage offering. I undertook more training and at the age of 21 I became a fully qualified Mortgage Adviser.
A change in my personal circumstances took me toward the opening for an Independent Mortgage Broker here at David Allen Financial Services. I have two little girls, Grace and Isla, so when the opportunity arose to join a more flexible way of working with a new challenge, I jumped at it.
The biggest difference in my new role was that I was offering independent advice to clients; I was no longer tied to just one lender. This was a huge challenge; going from knowing the lending criteria of my previous role inside out, to having to get to grips with the whole of market, new research software and a new company.
Whilst this was tough, it resulted in some major career kicks; when one lender declines a client it’s up to me to source the best alternative until we get the go-ahead. If clients were doing this without a broker, they would have to start the entire process again, but with a broker, that task is up to me.
Perhaps the steepest curve in my learning journey, and my biggest achievement of my professional career so far, would be the fact that when I joined David Allen Financial Services there was a very small mortgage offering. We used to outsource all of our mortgage clients to another firm, and because the David Allen group centres around ‘closing the circle’ for all of our clients in terms of their financial needs, it was really important that this was brought in-house. The mortgage department is now a huge success with a one to one, personal touch service from me and my dedicated support assistant, Rachel Park.
I have found over the years that most lenders move with the times and I’m excited to tackle the next few months as things continue to change again, with Government schemes to boost the market and changes to personal circumstances and ways of working leading to more buying and selling.
