On Friday 26 June I had the pleasure of visiting Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton to take part in mock interviews for a selection of their year 10 students.
David Allen were invited to the school to help their students gain valuable interview experience by playing the role of interviewer. There was a great turnout with representatives from a number of other local businesses including TSB Bank, Beaty & Co Solicitors and the British Army.
I arrived bright and early ready to meet the team at Nelson Thomlinson School and was welcomed by some of their sixth form students. We made our way to the main hall in which the interviews were taking place and prepared for our first round of very nervous looking students.
Throughout the morning I met with some brilliant students, it was wonderful to see how much they had prepared for their interviews and it was so encouraging to learn more about their career aspirations, which included a budding musical theatre star and a student who wants to work with MI6. I interviewed around eight students overall and was so impressed with their eloquent and thoughtful answers. Of the pupils I spoke to, few had actually been in the position of interviewee before so it was very rewarding to be able to give them this experience, along with constructive feedback on their performance. The students were a credit to themselves and their school, taking on board the practical advice that they were given in the hope that it helps them further when the day comes for them to enter the world of work.
At David Allen we are proud to support our local schools and the development of young people in Cumbria. I would like to thank Nelson Thomlinson School for asking us to be a part of their day and would like to wish all of the students the very best of luck in their future search for employment.
