Newton Rigg College workshop

Being situated in the heart of the countryside at David Allen we understand the importance of farmers and the agricultural community.  We were delighted to host an agricultural business planning workshop with Sandra Ireton and a number of her students from Newton Rigg College this week.

This was the second of two sessions I have held with this group of students and it was great to be able to offer them advice and information on what it takes to run a successful agricultural business.  I am not just an accountant, I run a small farming business with my brother when I am not in the office and really understand the challenges that farmers face (which certainly isn’t helped by the challenging financial climate many are dealing with during these difficult times).

During my time with the students I have been able to explain some of the admin side associated with running a farm from the importance of creating a business plan to how benchmarking can give you the advantage you need for success.  As a firm David Allen strongly believes in the future of farming not just in Cumbria and our local area but across the UK and the world so being able to help the next generation of farmers is a great privilege.
