The Northern Society of Chartered Accountants held its annual prize giving ceremony in Newcastle on Saturday 20 April 2013. This was for all students who had completed their exams towards becoming a fully qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Emma Marshall and Kevin Batty were invited to the ceremony to recognise their achievements.
As the Qualified Person Responsible for Training I was really proud to go along to the ceremony along with Alison Welton who is the Counsellor and helps the students with their training. To pass these exams is a fantastic achievement for the students but also for the firm, recognising the massive commitment we make to training our people and helping them achieve their goals. Alison and I really enjoyed the ceremony and it was a great way to recognise the hard work and commitment which the students have shown.
Emma joined David Allen almost three years ago following her graduation from the University of Bristol where she did a Maths degree. Emma was bought up in Penrith and has worked really hard to get first time passes in her exams. She is now a key member of the Corporate team and works closely with limited companies on accounts and audit work along with specific one off projects.
Kevin Batty is a local lad, living on the family farm and graduated from university with a first class degree in Land and Farm Management. He is a key member of our Agricultural department and works closely with farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs helping them to optimise their resources and increase profitability.
As a firm we are really proud of Kevin and Emma and their achievements and it was great to be able to celebrate this in Newcastle. The ceremony included a welcome speech from Nick Lambert FCA and Northern Society President and then a talk from Mark Spofforth FCA and President of ICAEW. The certificates were then presented to the 150 students and it was great to see so many success stories. Finally Chris Fleetwood FCA gave an inspiring speech and his congratulations to the students.
Everyone enjoyed the ceremony and I was very proud to be there to show my support and congratulations.
Each year we recruit students to train to become Chartered Accountants and I am looking forward to many more success stories going forward.
