On Friday 28 July Michael Peile and I attended Mitchells Livestock Auction in Cockermouth to watch the opening show and sale of store lambs sponsored by David Allen Agriculture.
With a catalogued entry of 1000 lambs, judging began promptly at 10am with the sale following straight after. First up were the store lambs followed by calves and stirks, breeding cattle, feeding cows and then the 125 store cattle.
The opening show and sale of store lambs was hit with a huge ringside of buyers prompting trade to be some £3.00 – £4.00 more expensive on the year, averaging £61.41 per head. It was great to see such a fantastic turnout and be part of the bustling atmosphere.
Congratulations to GW Whitfield & Sons of Low Stowbank whose pen of ten Beltex lambs were awarded 1st in class and champions by judge John Dixon of Lesson Hall.

It was a pleasure to attend this event and we were very proud to sponsor and be involved.
