I grew up in Northern Ireland and attended university in Nottingham where I studied Law. I moved to Scotland in 1986 and was unable to practise English Law, as accountancy had always interested me that was the career I perused. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant with ICAS in Glasgow in 1990. And moved to South Scotland in 1993.
Before joining David Allen, I worked in Adult Basic Education where I helped people with their literacy and numeracy skills, also delivering evening classes in book-keeping. After that I worked on a women’s development project for the council for Voluntary Service and carried out management accountancy. In 2008 I started work for a local competitor. I made the move to David Allen in 2015, the firm is client centred which is something that is important to me.
I complete audit and accounts preparation for a wide range of companies and charities of all sizes throughout Cumbria and South West Scotland.
My job is very rewarding, helping clients achieve their goals, watching their businesses grow and supporting them through challenges that they often face. Another rewarding aspect of my role is helping our trainees, working with them to improve their knowledge and skills.
Clients say I am helpful, approachable and friendly.
Outside of work I enjoy travelling, visiting China, Tanzania, Nepal and Peru in recent years. I am currently attempting to learn Spanish.
