Penrith & Borders Agri-Business Club – summer meeting

Posted: July 9th, 2012

I had the pleasure in attending our quarterly meeting in Skelton Village Hall on Friday evening, as appose to the Skelton Show ground where our meeting was originally planned.

Our guest speaker for the evening was Wes Johnston, Principal of Newton Rigg college, Penrith (part of Askham Bryan College).  Wes along with the governors of Newton Rigg have really worked hard to put the college back on the map for Cumbria Rural education.  The planned works taking place at Sewborwens Farm are ambitious, but will provided excellent facilities for the dairy production and management. Wes is very passionate about the future of the college and in a short space of time, the proof in the pudding is being seen with the graduates coming through.

We had a wonderful dinner, kindly sponsored by Burnetts Solicitors and Richard Miller and colleagues were in attendance.  The evening was chaired by our new chairman Robert Craig, who is the successor of Nick Utting this year.  The Club was established by Mr Rory Stewart MP and Rory was on hand for the Q & A session at the end the presentation along with Wes.

A really great evening and I'm looking forward the the Autumn event.
