On Sunday 10 July, 2600 female runners, walkers and joggers dressed up in pink to take part in the 5K Race for Life in Carlisle’s Bitts Park.
Many of those that participated, bore names of loved ones, past and present that currently have or have had cancer – a poignant reminder of the need for essential fundraising into cancer research for treatment that is required now and in the future.
Winner Ellie Ulyatt aged 16 was running on behalf of school mate Adele George, 15, who died of the disease last February.
The Carlisle 5K Race was expected to raise over £230,000 for Cancer Research UK, with expectations on the whole estimated at an amazing £80m nationwide. The event is such a worthwhile cause and as such, the day turned out to be a huge success.
