Remote working with Amy Muirhead
At David Allen, our people are at the very heart of what we do and are essential to the high level of service we deliver.
We caught up with Amy Muirhead who manages our office in Dumfries to find out more about her experience working from home.
How are you finding working remotely?
Early mornings to late nights, it’s been busy but also very rewarding at the same time! With so many different announcements over the last few weeks, it’s important to keep on top of it all and make sure our clients know what to do and feel as reassured as possible.
During these difficult times, I’m full of fire and enthusiasm because my clients and their businesses have never needed as much support from their Accountant as they do now. They are my top priority.
What are you doing to keep in touch with the rest of the David Allen team?
We are really lucky to have great IT and this makes working from home just as good as working from the office.
It’s so important that as a firm we are joined up and tackling this as one. We are keeping in touch with lots of calls, emails and video chats through Microsoft Teams. It is good to hear how everyone is getting on and their views on the situation.
How are you looking after your emotional well being?
I am trying to have lunch away from my laptop and aim to finish work at a reasonable hour (although that doesn’t always go to plan!).
It’s great to have lush green grass at my back door. I make sure to go for a walk first thing in the morning or in the evening after work to get some fresh air and to keep my steps up.
What advice would you give to others working from home?
- Stay focused and set clear goals each day
- Be positive – “Things could always be better, but things could always be worse”
- With all the technology around, there are so many ways to keep in contact so continue to talk to others just as you would in the office.
Tell us, what are your new co-workers like?
Hairy, 4 legged and enjoys plenty walks!
