Manager Michael Fearon discusses how flexibility and encouragement from David Allen has allowed him to pursue his Rugby career alongside accountancy.
David Allen have been flexible and very encouraging with supporting my out of work activities and understand how important it is for employees, both mentally and physically, to have hobbies and interests.
I play Rugby Union and have done for around 12 years now. I currently play for Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC in the Northern Premier Division, which is a big commitment, with training every Tuesday and Thursday. Games are played on a Saturday afternoon and can be anywhere in the north of England.
Although the training and games are generally out of working hours, there are occasional days where an early finish or time off may be needed, and flexible working allows me to fit everything in.
Playing rugby is a great way to meet potential clients as well as getting to know current clients on a more personal and informal level, especially within Cumbria where everybody seems to know everybody! Rugby has taken me all over the country playing in games, leagues and competitions at different levels and standards, with the highest being Sale Sharks Academy trials.
It has also allowed me to meet a wide range of people from different backgrounds and cultures, as well as developing a very team orientated attitude when it comes to problem solving and working together for the best possible results.
