Accounts apprentice Abbie Conquest explains how she is training to be an Accountant.
I was 23 when I decided to become an accountant and had been in full time work for the last five years. I had recently bought a house with my partner so needed to have an income while learning so an apprenticeship seemed the best option for me.
As an apprentice my typical day can include submitting VAT returns, drafting accounts, checking in documents and accounts admin.
There are a lot of people within the firm who have already completed or are in the process of completing the same course so there is always someone that can offer advice.
I attend college once a week. I have found that those of us from David Allen were finding the topics easier to understand as we can put the information we were learning into practise at work. We do a variety of work here so become familiar with a range of subjects covered by the course. Several of the other students in my class commented that they wished they had a job like mine!
