On Thursday and Friday of last week (14 & 15 November) I attended a two day event at the offices of Standard Life in Edinburgh.
The event was attended by nine other financial advisory firms from around the UK, all of which are regarded as key accounts by Standard Life.

The first day’s meeting was held in Standard Life’s head office on Lothian Road and items discussed included the Market and Regulatory landscape where Standard Life gave their views into how they think the financial advice arena will change over the next few years and an insight into their dealings with the Financial Conduct Authority. It was also a great opportunity to share opinions with other financial advisers.
After lunch we discussed the importance of carrying out thorough due diligence into investment partners and solutions, something which we attached great emphasis on at David Allen Financial Services.
Friday’s session was held at Dundas House in Edinburgh which is where most of Standard Life’s customer servicing is performed. The day started with a tour of the very impressive building and allowed me the opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes and get a better understanding of what happens when we send some new business to Standard Life. The rest of the day included sessions on business solutions and pensions auto-enrolment.
I would like to thank Standard Life for their hospitality. The two days gave me a fantastic opportunity to see behind the scenes and I was impressed with the systems and commitment to customer service shown by Standard Life. It was also a great chance to meet with other advisers from around the UK to share ideas which will help to improve the service we give to our clients.
