Julie and I had a great afternoon at The North Lakes Hotel, Penrith on Thursday listening to Paul McGee’s inspirational talk on How to Survive and Thrive in Changing Times.
Paul McGee is one of the UK’s leading speakers on the subject of change, workplace relationships, and motivation. He explained the background to his career and how he has worked in the public and private sector organisations and with Manchester City Football Club.
Paul had the whole audience engaged and explained about his SUMO philosophy, Shut Up and Move On and gave great guidance and thoughts on dealing with change. He explained that a lot of people don’t like change so we need to help people to deal with it by explaining the process and showing compassion. It is ok for people to feel uncomfortable with change and we can provide the support to help them deal with it. Seeking support is a sign of wisdom!
It was great to come away from listening to Paul with so many great thoughts:
- Remind people they are MAD – Making a Difference
- FAIL – First Attempt in Learning
- Never underestimate the importance of showing people appreciation
- Develop fruity thinking
- Don’t listen to your inner critic too much
- Focus on progress not perfection
- Hippo time is ok
Thank you to the Centre for Leadership Performance for a great event and to Paul McGee for such an inspirational and thought provoking talk.
