Bright and early this morning on Thursday 8 February, David Allen Financial Services were delighted to collaborate with System People HR to deliver a seminar on managing absence in the workplace.
Guests arrived at 9am and after being greeted in reception, they were invited to enjoy refreshments and given the opportunity to informally meet and mingle with other attendees before the event began.
After settling in and receiving there goodie packs, everyone took their seats and the seminar began with Rebecca Bird, Operations Director from System People welcoming everybody and setting the scene for the morning.
Rebecca went on to share practical advice, tools and templates to help manage both short term and long term sickness absence in a business, in line with employer obligations. She highlighted that all employers, regardless of business size have a duty of care, as well as an entitlement to take the lead in such matters.
It was a lively session in an open format where all guests were invited to share their experiences and ask questions. Rebecca, an expert if her field talked through the steps to be taken in different scenarios, instilling confidence into those in the room. The topics of discussion were all issues that leaders in the workplace face on a daily basis, costing every business time and money, so the information Rebecca shared was invaluable.
Following Rebecca our own Steve Balmer, Managing Director of David Allen Financial Services provided an insight into the protection market place and the various solutions available that employers can offer employees, which can add value to an employment opportunity and even help reduce absence in a workplace. Such policies Steve talked about included death in service, group critical illness and group income protection.
With more than one million workers a year finding themselves unable to work due to a serious illness or injury and less and less employers offering anything more than statutory sick pay, employees need to be aware of what time off work would mean to them. Steve highlighted the risks and talked about how income protection can mitigate such a problem arising.
Following popular demand for the seminar, the morning session was followed by a short break before an afternoon session with a new set of attendees began, with the same format being followed.
We would like to thank Rebecca for organising and inviting us to both seminars. Both were a great success and we were proud to collaborate with System People. It was fantastic to meet so many people from so many different businesses.
