On Sunday 18 September myself and Julie Osborn attended the ‘Topside’ open day at Temon Farm, proudly hosted by our clients Ross and Elaine Pattinson and in conjunction with the Border British Blue club.
There was plenty going on throughout the day, including a stock judging competition which included British Blue calves, dairy cows and Cheviot sheep. A cattle clipping demonstration kept visiting guests entertained while we were also given the opportunity to look around the cattle that Ross and Elaine have been showing and winning awards with throughout this year’s agricultural show season.
Speakers from Lloyd’s feeds and Capontree vets both gave interesting and informative presentations on the current climate in farming, including ways to improve the feed intake for your cattle and the herd health of your stock.
The final event of the day saw the Border British Blue club announce the herd competition results:
Jonty Bellas, Croftends – winning best cow
Shona Comrie, Stonebyres – winning 12-30 month heifer and best large herd and overall herd
Neil and Helen Forrester, – winning heifer under 12 months and best small herd
Paul and Katie Brannen, – winning most promising bull
Ross and Elaine Pattinson – winning best senior bull
A fantastic day was had by all. Well done to Ross, Elaine and all that helped make it happen. You organised a great day which kept all the family entertained.
