Last weekend Coral Mowbray and I, along with two of our CrossFit Cumbria teammates, competed in the Tribal Clash CrossFit competition at Blackpool Sands Beach in Devon.
The two-day competition was a team event open to CrossFit athletes across Europe. These competitions incorporate elements from high intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, strongman and much more. There were 144 teams and five punishing events lined up, the exact details of which were kept a secret until the last minute so we all had to be ready for anything! The competition had a unique festival atmosphere with a lively event village and onsite camping right by the beach.
We arrived on Friday night after a seven hour car journey, just in time for the opening ceremony. The competition kicked off on Saturday morning with three events followed by a further two events on Sunday. Each event was held on the heavy shingled beach and included beach and trail running, pull ups, log squats and lunges, log and tyre flips, burpees, atlas stone lifts and many more.
At the end of the five events we were sitting in ninth position and to the delight of our team and supporters we made the cut of the top 20 teams into the final.
We got off to a great start in the final and made it through the first few cuts into the top six when unfortunately we came to the end of the road and got knocked out of the competition.
The weather was great and the event was fantastic, we managed to finish in sixth place out of 144 teams so were extremely happy and celebrated that night at the after party.
