August 2018, Dalston Show. Wall to wall sunshine and a crowded David Allen stand. Between serving prosecco and nibbles, Suzanne Foster our Debt Recovery Specialist got chatting to a local farmer who asked her about her role in the business. When she advised that she heads up the debt recovery team, he looked her up and down and laughed. ‘Really?!’ he asked. ‘You don’t look like you could recover debt.’
This is a common misconception. When people think debt recovery, they often think of muscle-bound mobsters, hammering on doors and demanding payment. So, as a 5 foot 3 female, Suzanne is here to bust that myth with three methods, showing that brawn is not the only answer…
The first step David Allen Recovery Solutions take is to make contact with the debtor by letter. Sometimes, the very act of receiving a letter from a third party is enough to prompt the debtor to make a payment. Instructing someone else to handle a debt shows that it is being taken seriously and has not just been filed in the never-ending ‘to do’ pile.
If we do not receive a response to our initial letter, we pick up the phone and follow up – something which often gets forgotten or delayed when debt is handled in-house.
We are experts in budget analysis. When pursuing an individual for a debt, we provide a detailed budget sheet and ask for full details of income, expenditure and other debts. Our expertise in this area allows us to calculate reasonable offers of payment based on accepted methods of dividing disposable income. Our holistic, yet no-nonsense, approach goes beyond the simple ‘income minus expenditure’ and gets the results our clients want.
Mediation is a process by which a neutral third party, a mediator, facilitates negotiations between parties in conflict, with the aim of reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
Mediation can be particularly useful in cases where debt is disputed. Yes, it is possible to go down the litigation route, but sometimes, it can simply be a case of finding that middle ground between the parties.
We work closely with a number of mediators and can either participate on behalf of our clients or act in a supporting role. Mediation can take place either face to face or by telephone and can be an effective way of keeping costs down, whilst reaching an agreement suitable for all parties.
These are just three examples of how we deliver our philosophy of simple and effective debt recovery. Do you have a debt issue you would like assistance with? Call our team of experts today on 01228 711888 or email email@example.com
