At David Allen we believe in supporting the next generation of business entrepreneurs in our local area and were once again proud to support the Young Enterprise (North Cumbria Area Board) finals evening on Thursday 19 March.
Young Enterprise is the UK’s largest business and enterprise education charity. Every year teams from secondary schools across Cumbria launch their own mini businesses as part of the Young Enterprise company programme. The competing teams this year were:
- ‘Gecho’ from Caldew School
- ‘Luguvalium’ from Newman School
- ‘The Slippery Business’ from Appleby Grammar School
- ‘Indigo’ from Ullswater Community College
- ‘Cumbria Unwrapped’ from Nelson Thomlinson School
- ‘Venture’ from William Howard School
- ‘Farmyard Storytellers’ from Beaumont College
This year’s ‘Champion Company’ of the North Cumbria final were ‘Cumbria Unwrapped’ from Nelson Thomlinson School. Their business venture showcased some of Cumbria’s finest produce by creating a range of gift sets including ‘Cumbria Loves Ewe’, ‘Cumbrian Treats’ and ‘Cumbrian Tea Time’. These gift sets were created using Cumbrian slate, high quality Cumbrian products and clear film wrapping from Innovia in Wigton.
We were delighted that ‘Cumbria Unwrapped’ were also the winners of our sponsored category, the Profitability Award, which was presented to the team by Julie Osborn one of our Business Services Specialists.
It was clear to everyone that all of the students who took part gained invaluable business skills and experience that will no doubt help them develop in their future careers. We wish them all the best with their individual development going forward and wish all of the ‘Cumbria Unwrapped’ team from Nelson Thomlinson School the best of luck at the Cumbria finals in May.
