The local schools involved in Young Enterprise this year each presented their project to the packed ballroom at the Crown & Mitre Hotel. There was a variety of projects ideas from the sale of bath bombs and wood products to the winning overall idea of an e-book to assist young boys in learning to read from Nelson Thomlinson School. They have successfully had their book published and are also selling it on Amazon which is a remarkable achievement.
The Young Enterprise initiative is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to get involved in a project from start to finish and develop their marketing, finance, team building and presentation skills. Last years Cumbrian winners, Scranbition from Caldew School presented an update on the ongoing work for their idea of enhancing Cumbria’s food bank. The members have gone on to successfully achieve a place at their chosen University with their Young Enterprise experiences being a strong quality within their application and interview discussion.
We wish the Champion Company from Nelson Thomlinson the best of luck with their ‘Kick Start’ project in the Cumbrian finals. We also look forward to seeing their idea to encourage boys to read be made a National initiative.
