Ben Nicholls

I am a Tax Assistant at David Allen which involves preparing and filing tax returns for individuals, partnerships and those working in sole trade.  A typical day for me involves processing documents received from clients to calculate and attempt to reduce their tax liability.  No two jobs are the same, which makes the work engaging, I enjoy the challenge of learning something new and adapting my approach to suit each case.  I have always preferred numerical- style subjects such as Maths and Computer Science, excelling in these through GCSE and A-Levels.  When it came to choosing a career path, I was drawn to the idea of learning while gaining hands-on experience.

I initially applied for an accountancy role at David Allen, but after my interview, I was encouraged to speak with the Tax Manager, who felt the tax department would be a better fit for my skills and interests.  That proactive and personalised approach confirmed that David Allen was the right choice for me, they genuinely tailor opportunities to each individual, both for staff and clients.  The support within the Dalston and Workington offices has been exceptional.  Everyone is approachable and willing to help, which has made my learning experience much smoother and more enjoyable.  I know that if I ever face a challenge, there is always someone I can turn to.

When not at work, I enjoy attending the Carlisle United football games both home and away, I also love travelling to new places and immersing myself in different culture.  It is a great way to broaden my perspective and recharge.
