Having grown up and worked on my family farm from an early age, Agriculture has always been a big part of my life. I gained an understanding of the industry and the challenges faced by farming businesses. Alongside helping with day to day farm activities, I was also involved in bookkeeping and farm paperwork, which sparked my interest in working with numbers and solving problems.
Wanting to build on these skills while staying connected to the agricultural sector is what led me to pursue a career in accountancy. I am currently studying towards my Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) qualification while gaining practical experience as an Accounts Assistant within the Agricultural team.
As David Allen had a specialist Agricultural team, it offered the opportunity to combine my interest in accountancy with my passion for agriculture. The supportive culture and strong sense of teamwork within the department have made it a great place to develop my knowledge and confidence. Everyone is friendly and always willing to share their experience, which has been hugely beneficial as I continue to learn.
Outside of work, I play football for Penrith and hockey for Wigton. Being involved in team sports has helped me develop communication, teamwork and problem solving skills, as well as an appreciation for supporting others and working towards shared goals.
As I continue to develop my career, I am keen to expand my knowledge of agricultural accountancy, gain further professional qualifications and take on greater responsibility within the business. The opportunity to combine my accountancy career with an industry I have always been passionate about is something I find particularly rewarding.
