I started my career as a qualified teacher and lecturer, working for a professional football club. I decided to have a career change because I wanted to try my hand at something different: I enjoy trying new things and challenging myself and, as my Uncle and Grandfather are both Chartered Accountants it seemed like a good fit.
I joined David Allen in 2019, after being inspired by the ambition the company has. David set out a clear vision for the future and it was something that I was excited to be a part of. I grew up in a rural area of Lancashire, so I knew some aspects of farming life. Agriculture seemed like an interesting area to develop my accountancy career.
In my role I prepare accounts, draft VAT returns and mentor new starters. I have been able to bring a variety of outside skills to the role thanks to my previous career and qualifications. The degree I did, involved a lot of looking for evidence and problem solving and, although it was more writing than figures, it helped me to be able to identify inconsistencies in work.
My teaching background has also helped me when finding different ways of helping other colleagues whom I mentor.
