Penrith Building Society, established in 1877, has been helping generations of savers and borrowers through their financial services, from their office in Penrith town centre.
David Allen IT Solutions has provided outstanding local IT support and services to the Building Society for over 5 years. We were recently commissioned to assist the Building Society with a network infrastructure project. Our IT consultant Daniel Russell planned the project to design and implement a network infrastructure upgrade to achieve high network availability. Daniel said, “One of the main goals was to successfully achieve improved network performance, including prevention of network downtime in case of a device failure, firewall configuration, network segregation and the filtering of network traffic. This was all achieved with minimal impact to the core line of business applications. The network refresh project also included enabling scheduled connectivity reports for the senior management team. This included configuring optimum security so that the business was assured of the continuing protection and security of its IT estate.”
The project was carefully planned from the network design phase through to implementation. To achieve high availability, David Allen IT Solutions configured and implemented two FortiGate firewalls. In the event of a device failure, the other firewall will automatically take over to prevent network outages and ensure business continuity. To control traffic and ensure security, we created multiple virtual local area networks (VLAN) and applied granular rules. We also scoped egress filtering firewall rules to specific services to ensure only necessary internet traffic is allowed. The network was reconfigured to meet the client’s security needs, ensuring access to a core line of business applications. Scheduled reporting of the network was also configured, for example which user logged in, when and from which location, enabling reports to be sent on a weekly basis to the senior management team.
