From the 18 November 2025, all company directors and People with Significant Control (PSC) will be legally required to verify their identity with Companies House.

This is being introduced to help ensure that only real, verified individuals are listed on the Companies House register.

Companies House have now started contacting company directors and PSCs directly and we are encouraging you to complete your identity verification as soon as possible.

What is a Person with Significant Control (PSC)? 

A PSC might be determined in one of the following ways:

• the individual owns more than 25% of the shares in the company
• the individual owns more than 25% of the voting rights in the company
• the individual has the right to appoint or dismiss the majority of the members of the company’s board of directors
• the individual has the right to exercise, or actually does exercise, significant influence or control over the company

In order to be identified as a PSC, you only need to meet one of the conditions above.  If this is the case, then you are a Person with Significant Control and will need to verify your identity.

How to verify your identification

Once your identity is verified, you will be issued with a personal code. We will need this code in order to continue filing documents with Companies House on your behalf. If you have already created your personal code, please can you share the code/s with us, otherwise, please follow the steps below:

Step 1 – Register for a Gov.One account

The Government have introduced a new login system called GOV.UK One Login.  If you don’t already have an account, you will need to create one or sign in using the following link: Verify your identity for Companies House – GOV.UK.

Step 2 – Verify your identity

You will need the following to complete the verification:

• a chipped passport or UK photo card driving licence (you cannot use a photocopy or digital copy)
• a device with a camera, such as a smartphone or webcam
• your current address and the year you moved in

The process will guide you through scanning your ID and taking a live photo of yourself.  This is to confirm that the ID belongs to you.

If you do not have a suitable photo ID but live in the UK, you can still verify your identity in person at the Post Office.

Step 3 – Save and send us your personal code

Once verified, Companies House will issue a personal code that proves your identity.  You will only need to verify your identity once, even if you are involved in multiple companies.  For example, if you are a director of three companies, you will only verify your identity once.

Please send us a copy of your personal code.  This code is personal to you (not your company), and we will need it to connect your verified identity to the records held at Companies House.

We will be unable to file your company’s Confirmation Statement or any other statutory documents until all directors and PSCs associated with your company have completed identity verification.
