My career journey is something that I’m really proud of just to think that fifty years ago, women in the UK were not even able to open a bank account without their husband’s permission, certainly means that life for many has changed a lot.

However, we all know it should not stop there.  Supporting awareness and education to drive action with our clients is something I am passionate about which ties in with this year’s International Women’s Day topic of accelerating action.   While the progress made toward financial equality has been huge there is work that lies ahead.

Women’s financial journeys can be problematic due to career breaks, lower lifetime earnings and higher borrowing needs, issues that are often added to by ever changing financial and monetary policies that do not fully account for the unique financial challenges that women face.

While men also experience financial struggles, the gender wealth gap continues because many view the financial journey as if it is the same for everyone.

This hesitation has real consequences, with women retiring on average with 41% less wealth than men, according to 2024 studies by the Financial Times.
